In 1760, a man by the name of Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾 北斎), known mononymously as Hokusai, delivered a painting series that sent shockwaves throughout Japan and the rest of the world in its beauty. This series, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji (富嶽三十六景), kicked off while Hokusai reached the age of 70 years in 1830.
Centuries later, his work still impacts the world in meaningful and positive ways. While not a painter myself, I was touched and inspired by his work scattered throughout my 125 days traveling through Japan. So much so, I spent two weeks photographing Mt. Fuji from at least 36 Views, like Hokusai did, centuries ago.
As a result, I will reveal a photo-book consisting of stories and images from this experience. Stay tuned!
