MORE TO COME
In 1760, Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾 北斎) was born. an artist whose work would change how the world saw Japan. At age 70, in 1830, he started his iconic series, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji (富嶽三十六景). Centuries later, his vision still shapes how we see Fuji today.
I’m not a painter, but during my 125 days traveling through Japan, I was deeply moved by Hokusai’s work. So much so that I spent two weeks photographing Mount Fuji from at least 36 different viewpoints, just as he did, but through my own lens.
A photo book from this journey is on the way. For now, here’s a glimpse at some of the images.
